Buckeyes hire former Iowa Hawkeye Big Ten Champ as Head Coach

This guy was my coach at the Iowa Hawkeye's Intensive Training Camp back in high school. I think it was 1989 or 1990.

What do you think of the pick up?

I was hoping for Ms. Elizabeth, but you win some and lose most.

I think it's a good choice. He's been coached by Gable, who is hands down the greatest wrestling coach in the history of the sport. He's had some success at the smaller NY school he's coming from. They placed 11th in the NCAA tournament last year, which would be like a smaller sized school making the final 16 or whateverin basketball. That's pretty impressive. He's consistently won the conference at the school he's coming from. He's not quite a "sure thing" like hiring Tomm Brands, or Terry Steiner, or Cael Sanderson would have been. But he's not an untested and unproven coach like Rowlands either. Ryan is still pretty young, though and so he could have a long career at OSU and could really help to build the team's recruiting capabilities if he gets some success early on. Ohio State was an "up and comer" there for a while, but then over the last few years totally lost it's edge. Not sure why. It will take some time to rebuild teh reputation so they can recruit top guys again. I really believe OSU can become a top contender for teh National title every year just by recruiting Ohio guys. Oklahoma, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York are the strongest wreslting states in my opinion. So I think OSU has a rich talent pool to draw from.

We'll see. I'm excited for the upcoming season. I may see if they need a chaplain. Do state schools allow that kind of thing?
