I agree with the Professor from Tufts. Life is all about rewards. As parents, it is our job to teach this to our children by showering them with praise and withholding punishment. Only this can produce well-adjusted and successful adults, like Terrell Owens for instance.
What if a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, and, though they discipline him, will not listen to them? Would a good parent take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city, and say to the elders of his city, 'This our son is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard,' and then have all the men of the city stone him to death with stones?

I'm all for it. If rebellious teens were stoned today, they wouldn't be so rebellious in the first place.....
I think this was a very creative way to deal with the situation.
