Hello! Great blog. I enjoy reading it. If one is just starting to get into Bill Mallonee what album would you recommend?

For years, Mallonee recorded under the name Vigilantes of Love. Here are some albums to consider beginning with:

1. Audible Sigh- (VOL) full on alt-country. Great production, Emmylou Harris and Julie Miller both make appearances. My favorite one.

2. Jugular- (VOL) an early album which captures Bill in his essence. Stripped down and raw. Great, visceral songwriting. Lot's of acoustic guitar, harmonica and even accordian thrown in there. This was one of my first VOL albums and an early favorite. I quote these songs frequently in my sermons, believe it or not!

3. Dear Life- (Bill Mallonee) Probably the best album Bill has recorded under his own name rather than the VOL moniker. It's relatively new, and is in the folk-alt-country genre. A good album, but not my favorite.

Dear Life is a great album...

I have all of them (VOL and Solo stuff) on my iPod... but I've currently been spinning "Struggleville" as well. Good stuff.
