This issue is pretty interesting to me and makes more sense of why I often related to "liberals", especially the "far-left" on campus more than many mainstream Republicrats. Michael Moore, Ralph Nadar, & many of their ilk often see the gov't as a form of shadow gov't for major corporations or the rich, etc. They, I believe, make the mistake of believing that this is related to capitalism (free-market wouldn't allow for this sort of gov't usurption) and the only alternative is some pseudo-commie/socialist vision. I guess I use the term free-market due to the baggage w/ capitalism.
Anyway, I hope these thugs get theirs. I may decide to take it myself--when was the last time a Federal Judge really provided a city with economic benefits? They receive their income via taxation, which is drain on cities.
OK, so the fifth amendment says a lot of stuff about crime (calling for a grad jury, disallowing double jeopardy and self-incrimination)but also states : "...nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."
The case the Supreme Court ruled on was to take away un-blighted homes so the area could be developed to potentially increase the tax base of the city. What happened to "public use"? No property owner is safe as long as increased tax revenues are a valid justification for taking property because Pfizer or even any 'TarCVSmart' will bring in more tax revenue to a city than a home.
I've found David Souter's rulings disappointing in the past and remember the relative ease in which he was confirmed by the Senate. On the other hand Clarence Thomas had a vicious fight in his confirmation, but I have not been disappointed by his rulings. As Thomas said in his decent "If 'economic development' takings are for a 'public use,' any taking is, and the court has erased the Public Use Clause from our Constitution. ... Once one permits takings for public purposes in addition to public uses, no coherent principle limits what could constitute a valid public use ..."
This all leaves me asking; when is the next vacancy?
This didn't take long; WKYC news in Cleveland reports that Mayfield Village (near Cleveland) is targeting land for Progressive Insurance's new campus.
It doesn't make a diffrence that the land isn't someone's home. It is someone's office and property that they paid for and have toiled in.
The CEO of Progressive, Peter Lewis, is the lesser-known partner of George Soros in funding such projects as MoveOn.org, ACT, the Media Fund and Progress for America. In 2004 he contributed over $23 million to groups dedicated to promoting liberal causes and candidates. Just an interesting insight into a man who is using the government to take what his wants.

Liberals are always for the common man, goingtothevalley. They care about the little people and are never governed by "self-interest" like those evil capitalists, a la Walmart, Target, and such evil corporations. Nope, Statist intervention is always for our protection, safety, and "general welfare". That's right, George Soros knows best.
I wonder if Howard Dean will seek out this "hypocrisy". Probably not. Will anyone, esp. a Democrat, call his bluff?

Yes, this would certainly be one of the best things I have heard in a long time. I hope it goes through.
